In the first part
of this true life tale, Anita met Kennedy and there was this awry feeling
around him....
She
had to quickly look away. Soon, the lecturer entered the class, apologised and
work progressed. Throughout the whole period, Anita sensed that the strange boy
watched her.
When
it was his turn to introduce himself, he rose mechanically, like a robot. He stood there until the teacher asked, what
is your name? “Kennedy,” he muttered in
a subdued almost inaudible voice.
Some
students sniggered but Kennedy showed no emotion. He just stood there until the
teacher said, “Okay Kennedy, you are welcome to Comprehensive High. I hope you
will find the class exciting.” Without saying another word, Kennedy lowered
himself into his seat.
They
did not talk to each other at all that year except on the last day of the first
year. As soon as the bell rang, she rushed out of the class to look for her
friends and say goodbye to them, when suddenly she bumped into him.
He
didn’t flinch but just stood there, peering down at her with his incredibly
dark eyes. Anita noticed that he was so tall, he towered over her. He clutched a book in his hand and she caught
she caught sight of his fingernails. They were unnaturally long, not like the
nails of a boy. “Why do you like starring at me so much? Do you like what you
see?” He spoke into her thought,
breaking her reverie.
“Uhn,”
she answered, startled. “I am sorry, didn’t realise I was staring.”
“Would
you like to accompany me to the cafeteria?” he asked, not breaking his stare.
His dark eyes bore relentlessly into hers.
“Yes.
I guess I like that,” Anita answered, like one in a trance. As they stood
there, many students pushed past them, flinging old homework assignments in the
air and cheering, desperate to escape school. Anita wanted to leave and join
the others, but something kept her there, but something
kept her there.
To be continued
