Singer
of Watch My Tingo,
25-year-old British-Ghanaian-born Rachel Akosua Funmilola Garton aka Lola Rae,
has advised women not to always cook for their husbands.
Crude?
Well, she said she has great cooking skills but has her misgivings on wives cooking
for their husbands.
But
this is definitely against the admonition of the General Overseer of the
Redeemed Christian Church Of God, Pastor Adeboye. The popular clergy had recently
warned young men not to marry women who cannot cook or pray for an hour.
Lola,
who claimed to be a born again Christian, opined that Adeboye has a right to
express his opinions but she isn’t obliged to take to such.
She
told SUNDAY PUNCH, “I think it is his opinion and he is entitled to his opinion
and if that’s what he feels like the Lord is telling him, then that’s his own
message but if there are other people who feel they don’t want their wives to
do that and want their wives to support them and that’s what they feel it is
their story, then that should happen. I feel that’s his opinion.”
According
to Lola Rae, her mother was kind enough to have cooked for her father before
his untimely death last year and she (Lola) is also a great cook but, there is
a snag.
“Yes,
I was brought up in a home where my mum cooked for my dad every single day, but
she was a housewife. My thought is if you have the time, it is okay to
cook for your husband, but in a situation where you are a career woman and
don’t have the time to cook, there are ways you can go about it. You can hire
someone to do the cooking for you or cook in bulk on weekends and store in the
freezer.”
However,
she admitted to love cooking.
“Definitely, if I have the time, I will cook
because I love to do so. If God allows me and gives me the time do that,
I will cook every day,” she said.
Recall that blogger, Noble Igwe had said he married his wife to make her sit pretty and look good always not to cook. He opined that wives who make meals for their husbands are slaves!
