Yemisi Wada |
She got married to Femi
Fani-Kayode in 1991 and the union produced three children. It crashed in 1995.
Now married to Dahiru Wada, Yemisi has over the years carved a niche for
herself not just on the social scene but also as a social worker. A
philanthropist, she runs a Non Governmental Organisation that specialises in
rehabilitating street kids.
Life with FFK was said to have been fraught with sorrow which prompted
the young wife then to walk out of the marriage, with her two daughters—Temitope
and Tobiloba. She was pregnant with her third daughter, Tumininu.
She
said of her years with FFK in an interview, “I have no fond memories of then except
having my daughters, as I am sure he would say same if asked. What people do
not seem to realise is that we were together for only a very short while. The
marriage itself lasted less than three years. The fact that I have three
daughters makes it seem longer but I left just when I was pregnant with my
youngest daughter.”
Her marriage to Wada, which
was solemnized in 1997 after she left Fani Kayode, is spelt as a blessing to the
effervescent lady and her children.
She recalled how she met him: “Dahiru and I met at a
party in London. It’s funny how we met. I thought he was someone else and
planned to tease him but his incredible wit got the better of me and in the
end, the joke was on me. He actually insinuated that I was an airhead!”
Describing
him, she said, “He’s gentle, he is patient and he is kind. He has a wicked
sense of humour and he can gist. He has an infectious laugh and like me, he
loves to entertain. Like me also, he is a very good cook. He is the king of
roasts and curries. He is an amazing father. He loves his kids to bits. I am
always complimented about how well behaved my boys are but it is because they
live with a gentleman father and they live by example.”
Life
as Mrs. Wada? “It’s very interesting. My
father in-law loves me very much and my husband has many brothers who are like
him, very loving. So you’re living in an atmosphere of love. It’s a very nice
feeling. The best description of my husband is that he is a gentleman’s
gentleman. He is also very cultured and well travelled. He loves good food and
travelling. He is very well read and extensively knowledgeable in all things.
He is very generous and for us kind almost to a fault,” she said.
Today, September 29, the
lovely couple celebrates their wedding anniversary. Yemisi posted, “Happy
Anniversary baby @dahiru_wada.
Over the years since 1997 and we having fun still! Best friends for life,
plenty of laughs and love and I can only see more fun ahead sweets.” (sic)
Her
husband responded to the post and wrote: “Sweetheart our second honeymoon is
definitely on.” (sic)
For
Yemisi, being happier with Dahiru, is like stating the obvious. The daughter of
Honourable Justice Bayo Adeniji, a retired Judge of the Lagos State Judiciary
and who had served in the Legal Department of Lagos State Civil Service has
found genuine love in Dahiru, son of Inua Wada, a one-time minister in the
First Republic.
Meanwhile, her 19-year-old union with Dahiru Wada is blessed with two
boys—Abba and Dahiru Junior. Obviously, they are living happily together ever
after.
Kemiashefonlovehaven wishes
Yemisi and Dahiru a happy wedding anniversary.
