Apart From Their Queens, Kings Also Roll With Rolls Royce

A long-standing symbol of position and nobility, the Rolls-Royce has been an opulent favourite of the rich and famous ever since it was first manufactured in England in 1904.

The statement-making bespoke car, which was hitherto considered the exclusive preserve of a select few, is now commonplace among monarchs. Costing $417,825 ( N131.5m at the official rate and about N189.2m at the black market rate), the high end luxury car comes in an array of exotic finishes.

But each Rolls-Royce is made to order. The car can be customised outside of the standard options available at an extra fee. This can include paint and upholstery details.

So, it is no longer strange to find the Rolls-Royce Ghost, Rolls-Royce Phantom or Rolls-Royce Spirit of Ecstasy in the garage of some of Nigerian monarchs.  Who are they?

Oba of Benin

For the newly-installed, Oba of Benin kingdom, Oba Ewuare II, a brand new 2016 Rolls Royce phantom was his ‘welcome pack’ recently when he had his installation thanksgiving in Benin. Painted white, the monarch kickstarted his reign with a show of class.
