There was no better opportunity to have celebrated excellence than this. Family
and friends on May 14, 2016, converged on the Oglethorpe University, Atlanta,
Georgia, US to celebrate with Senator Musiliu Obanikoro as he graduated from
the prestigious university having completed a post-graduate degree in History.

His sons, daughters and amiable wife, Alhaja Morufa were present and
shared the joy with friends. His childhood pal and best friend, Kayode Bawa-Allah, was also
present with his wife.

Born into the Bakare family of Ita-Ado in Isale Eko, Ikare and Ilashe in Amuwo
Odofin Local Government of Lagos State, Obanikoro attended Saint Patrick
Catholic School, Idumagbo, Lagos and Ahmadiyya College (Anwar-ul/Islam College)
Agege.
He worked briefly as a Clerical Officer at LSHMBS, and at Union Bank as a Clerk
before traveling overseas for further studies. While in the US,
he attended Texas Southern University where he earned
his B.Sc degree in Public Affairs and Master's
Degree in Public Administration (M.
P. A).

| WITH FRIEND, BAWA-ALLAH AND THEIR WIVES |
He
was a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2007 gubernatorial race
in Lagos State but lost to the Action Congress of Nigeria’s candidate,
Babatunde Raji Fashola.
In 2008, Obanikoro was appointed Nigeria’s High
Commissioner to Ghana.

He served as Minister of State, Foreign
Affairs and Minister of State, Defence in the Goodluck Jonathan-led administration.
Described by his children as a good and
complete family man, Obanikoro is said not to joke with his family especially
his wife of over 36 years.
Babajide, his son, said of him in an
interview with SUNDAY PUNCH:

“He
is a family man, he puts his family first at all times, I learnt that from him.
He takes his children seriously. If you introduce yourself as a friend to any
of his children, he would give you a listening ear and grant you uttermost
respect. He is a complete family man.”
For
those admiring his good looks (he was born 1957), his son, Jide, talked on how
his father handles female admirers:
“
He is legally married to my mother, the only woman I know he is legally
affiliated to, every other one is just casual—a boy meets girl. Nothing more!”
